About the Runway Distance Remaining Sign
Runway distance remaining signs stand along the side of a runway at 1,000-foot intervals and show, in thousands of feet, how much runway is left ahead — a white numeral on a black face, 3 meaning 3,000 feet. They help pilots judge a takeoff or landing roll, and the numerals are larger on their face than other airfield legends so they read at speed.
